Sanctuary
Codex

Pick a class. Each one gets a beginner guide from the character-creation screen to level 70, and three endgame builds to choose from when you get there — a main build, an alternative that plays differently, and one you can start with little or no special gear. Written so a first-time player can follow it, detailed enough that a veteran doesn't have to look elsewhere.

Eight classes, four guides each

Start with the levelling guide if you're new. Jump straight to an endgame build if you already know what an aspect is.

Storm Shred · Landslide · Wolf Companion

A lightning werewolf that never stops dashing, a Werebear that buries bosses in landslides, or a pack of wolves doing the work.

3 endgame builds · levelling

Sorcerer

Ring of Fire · Ball Lightning · Blizzard

Stand in a ring of fire and burn everything that enters, orbit yourself with Ball Lightning, or spam Blizzard from level 38 to the end.

3 endgame builds · levelling

Spiritborn

Pestilent Swarm · Stinger · Quill Volley

Poison swarms that orbit you as you run, a Stinger build that works with no uniques at all, or feathers from range.

The season, farming, and the Steam Deck

Can't decide?

If you only read one paragraph

New to the game and can't choose? Make the character on the Seasonal Realm and follow the levelling page in order. Watch for level 15: seven of the eight classes unlock their defining mechanic through a class quest there. The Necromancer is the exception — its Book of the Dead opens from level 5. At level 70 you don't need the gear on day one: every build page has a From fresh 70 to finished section, and most classes have a build marked Starter build that works before any particular unique has dropped.
