on PlayStation 5 & Xbox Series

Default play at about sixty frames, an optional Enhanced Visuals path locked at thirty, and the same controller piles used on Steam Deck. One rule, then a row per class.

Default sixty, or Enhanced Visuals at thirty

Console Diablo IV does not ship a named Fidelity / Performance pair. You play at a roughly sixty-frame target by default, or you turn on Enhanced Visuals and accept a hard thirty.

Primary path

Options › Graphics › Performance › Enhanced Visuals. It improves textures (fur, hair, fog), shadows and reflections, and locks the game at 30 FPS so those costs stay paid. Leave it off if you want the default feel.

Launch-era resolution (Secondary, June 2023)

These numbers are from launch tech coverage and have not been re-checked for Season 15 / patch 3.2.1. Treat them as a dated aside, not current guidance. PS5 and Series X: roughly 1260p reconstructed to 4K. Series S: roughly 864p reconstructed toward 1440p. Series S also ran leaner shadow maps and ground detail than the other two at that time.

Laying out a build on a pad

DualSense and Xbox pads use the same three piles as the Deck page: one button you hold or spam, a few you press in rhythm, and the rest you set and forget. Put each pile in the same place whatever you play, and your hands stop relearning every respec.

WhereWhat goes thereWhy
TriggerYour main damage skillThe hold-down or spam button. Keep it pressed while your thumbs steer. Most of these builds want constant movement and constant casting at the same time.
Face buttonsRhythm skillsGenerators, short cooldowns you keep rolling, your gap-closer. Keep them where your thumb reaches without letting go of the trigger.
Face buttonEvadeFor the Paladin's Evade Hammerdin this is a main damage button at endgame, not an escape. Leave it in the most comfortable spot you have.
BumpersSet-and-forgetAuras, toggles, long buffs and panic buttons. Pressed rarely, so they belong in your most awkward slots.

Class by class

Same rule applied to each class's featured build on this site. Other builds still sort the same way: the skill you hold, the skills you press in rhythm, and the ones you keep up.

Turn on lock-on / target assist

Controller mode softly snaps at nearby enemies. Most builds here care about being inside the pack rather than aiming at one enemy, so it costs you nothing and saves your thumbs. The exception is the Rogue: Penetrating Shot is about the line you pick, so try it with assist off.

What the box adds (and what it does not)

Builds on a pad

If you already mapped a class on Deck, keep the same piles here. DualSense and Xbox pads do not need a different rule. Handheld battery and Proton notes live on the Steam Deck page; this one stays living-room and docked.

Don't do this

Turning on Enhanced Visuals and then expecting the default sixty-frame feel. The lock at thirty is the cost of that path. Pick one mood and leave it there for the session.
